About the game
Every treasure has an address: (x, y)
Coordinate Quest is a free coordinate plane game for grades 5–8, part of The Active Home Academy — The Active Home’s series for older kids. The grid is a pirate treasure map, and every spot on it has an address. Five levels take players from simple plotting in the first quadrant to negative numbers in all four quadrants and multi-step treasure trails.
Five levels of the hunt
- Plot it — Quadrant I (0 to 10): hear an address like (4, 7) and tap the spot.
- Name it — Quadrant I: the treasure chest is on the map — which address is it?
- Four quadrants: plot — the map grows to −6 to 6. Negative x is left of zero; negative y is below it.
- Four quadrants: name — read addresses with signs, where the classic mix-ups (swapped numbers, wrong sign) are the wrong answers on purpose.
- Treasure trail — start at a marked spot and follow directions ("3 right, then 2 down") to where the treasure must be.
Each level is 10 rounds with two tries per round, and earns up to three stars, saved on the device.
How it plays
- A memory hook that works. The game teaches "across first, then up or down" — walk to the door, then take the stairs — and repeats it in the feedback.
- Feedback that shows the path. Miss a treasure and a dashed path draws itself from the origin to the right spot, so the correction is visual, not just verbal.
- Saved on the device. Stars are stored only on this device — no accounts, nothing sent anywhere.
For parents and teachers
- Standards. Built for grades 5–8, aligned with Common Core 5.G.A.1 and 5.G.A.2 (graphing points) and 6.NS.C.6 and 6.NS.C.8 (rational numbers on the plane).
- The two classic errors, targeted. Swapping x and y, and dropping a negative sign, are built into the wrong answers so players learn to catch them.
- Free, always. No ads, no sign-up, nothing to buy.
